The chart below outlines the general stages that a typical Family Law matter may move through. Every case is different, though, and the process can vary based on the specific circumstances of your situation. Initial Consultation
A live session with our attorney, Mr. John Guzman. We listen, learn your situation, and explain your options.
File or Respond to a Petition
We file a petition to start your case or respond if you've been served. Typically, temporary orders are requested at this stage.
Discovery & Negotiation
We gather information, exchange documents and work toward fair resolutions.
Settlement or Mediation
We negotiate terms or mediate to reach an agreement outside of the court.
Court Hearings (If Needed)
If we can't settle, we advocate for you in court.
Trial / Judge's Order(s)
The judge issues orders on all oustanding issues.
Implementation
We make sure orders are followed and help you move forward.
Moving Forward
We're here for modifications, enforcement, and whatever comes next.
